Hands Only CPR and Automated External Defibrillators

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere without warning. For the greatest chance of survival from the most common cause of SCA, immediate CPR should begin and a shock from a defibrillator must be delivered within the first few minutes of collapse.

• Without CPR and use of an AED, the likelihood of a successful resuscitation decreases by about 10% with every minute that passes.
• Every second counts - when someone collapses and is in cardiac arrest, CPR and the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can save lives! The AED is easy to use, simply turn it "ON" and follow the voice prompts. The device is safe and will only shock the person IF it "sees" a shockable heart arrhythmia.
• It is critical that people use the devices when someone suddenly collapses and is not breathing normally.
